War poem - Eva

Whilst they scream and cry in pain,
I can’t help but feel the hesitation,
Who would want to die in such vain.
Should I really want to serve my nation.
This is no gungho  adventure,
All I crave is my safe haven.
It doesn’t have to be divine , I’ll happily accept the trencher.
Now as I stroke my beard, unshaven.
I finally make the ultimate decision,
To go over the top and die, sweet and glorious.
Does not compare to my true ambition,
Should my death really define me, Or shall I die notorious
Why should I fear a pathetic feather,
When the real cowards have are the ones convinced,
That watching a mate die is not any stranger
Than going for a stroll. we all fled unbeknownst,
Should I really give them the justice, add another notch too their belt.
I would hope my farewell would be in my cot, or in a comfortably uncomfortable hospital bed,
I can’t live with a death sentence hanging over my head,
So If deserve to go to hell for not doing what you say,
How would you defend your case.
